The Glossop Residence
The Glossop Residence is a response to a problem site. Situated on a steep bush block in the Blue Mountains that had remained vacant for years, been passed between owners, subject to multiple development applications, yet never built upon
The available building envelope sits as a narrow strip between the street and a rock escarpment, within a BAL Flame Zone and surrounded by dense bushland.
Rather than fight these constraints, the design is shaped by them. A compact footprint, stepped with the slope, arranged to capture light, outlook and privacy without excess.
Every square meter has purpose. Three outdoor areas extend the living spaces into the landscape, while a muted black form sits quietly against the trees and rock face.
The result is a home that is modest in size yet generous in experience; comfortable, buildable, and deeply connected to its surroundings.
A house designed to overcome a multitude of constraints without unduly inflating construction cost.
